Ingrown Nails

Acutely painful and infected ingrown toenails can be treated simply and painlessly with a local anesthetic by removing the offending nail border. Chronic painful ingrown toenails can be treated permanently with a simple procedure that prevents the regrowth of the ingrowing portion of that nail.

Heel Pain

Heel pain is most often caused by overuse, instead of an injury. Heel pain as a result of overuse can be due to many things, including wearing shoes with poor support, running too often, especially on hard surfaces, sudden turning of your heel, or landing too hard or awkwardly on your heel. Connective tissue that runs from the toes to the heel bone causes heel pain, also known as heel spur syndrome. There are many types of treatment for heel pain, depending on the severity of your pain, including anti-inflammatory medications, ice packs, stretching exercises, orthotic devices, and/or physical therapy.

Orthotics

Orthotics are customized shoe inserts made to fit you and to treat painful conditions such as flat feet, heel spurs, plantar fasciitis and neuromas. Orthotics are intended to correct abnormal or irregular walking patterns, by altering the angles at which the foot strikes a walking or running surface.

Sports Medicine

The most common foot problems caused by sports-related activites are blisters, corns, Cellulitis, athlete’s foot, achilles tendonitis, and heel pain. Preventive measures include using proper foot hygiene: keeping your feet dry, wearing clean socks, making sure your shoes fit properly and making sure you do not overstrain your legs, ankles, and feet. If you develop recurring and/or increasing aches and pains you should make an appointment as soon as possible to avoid causing permanent damage.

Pediatric Foot Care

Since young feet are still growing, problems can develop quickly. It is important to catch any conditions before they continue into adulthood. Pay attention to the following as they might indicate possible foot problems your child is experiencing: a change in the wear on their shoes, discoloration of the skin or nails, bumps on the skin, a change in the general coordination and stamina of your child, falling and fatigue and/or if they become unwilling to participate in activities they normally enjoy.

Wound Care

If you have a wound on your lower leg or foot that is not healing, it is very important to seek medical attention. We are experienced in treating many types of wounds that are caused by cuts, burns, trauma, infection, blisters, diabetic ulceration, etc. Wound care involves the proper cleaning, dressing and treatment of the affected area until the wound is completely healed.

Foot/Ankle Sprains and Fractures

If you are suffering from an ankle or foot fracture or sprain, time is of the essence. The best results are achieved when the fracture is tended to immediately. It is imperative that you contact our office as soon as possible so that emrgency care can be provided. We will evaluate the extent of your condition and administer the appropriate treatment.

Bunions and Hammertoes

Bunions are misaligned big toe joints that can become swollen and tender, causing the first joint of the big toe to slant outward, and the second joint to angle toward the other toes. Hammertoe is a deformity where the toe is bent up at the middle joint. Left untreated, hammertoes can become inflexible and require surgery. These are very common conditions. These can be surgically corrected. We can also treat these conditions on a temporary basis, giving our patients temporary relief. The patient has the final say on how we treat their condition. Our approach is to get you back on your feet as fast as possible.

Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetes is a disease that can cause serious problems with your feet in terms of circulation, balance, numbness, wounds and the ability to heal properly. It is extremely important for diabetics to have their feet examined several times a year by a doctor, to check for and treat any ulcerations or infections, and to prevent any further complications from occurring.

Geriatric Foot Care

Your feet will age along with the rest of your body. As you get older, your feet become more susceptible to injury and infection. Foot problems can hinder your mobility, so it is important to maintain healthy feet.

Fungal Nail Infections

These infections may start out as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your toenail. As the nail fungus spreads deeper into your nail, your nail may discolor, thicken and develop crumbling edges, causing an unsightly and potentially painful problem. These infections should be treated as soon as possible. If left untreated, they can lead to dangerous blood infections.

Athletes Foot Fungus

You do not have to be a member of a sports team to get athlete’s foot. In fact you don’t even have to play a sport. The condition itself usually results from an overgrowth of a particular fungus organism. In most cases, the areas between the toes and the arch of the foot are most often involved. There is some confusion as to how this skin condition can be transmitted but at the present time, the consensus of opinion is that there is some type of contagious capacity. In short, you might be able to catch it from the next guy or gal, so watch your barefoot walking!
